It’s a long time since Spurs had two Argentineans starring in the FA Cup, what did you make of Lo Celso and Lamela today? Do you want me to call them Ardiles and Villa?
No. They played very well. Ardiles and Villa would not be ashamed of them for sure. They
played very well. The team played very well especially in the first half. The second half we started ok but then gave
some sloppy reactions to let them feel their way back into the game. Jonathan [Woodgate]
was not sleeping, he was awake, he was reading the game. He brought on Gestede alongside Fletcher and they started playing long balls, second balls. They scored the goal and we had to defend.
But the majority of the game our energy was there. We should have scored more goals and
killed the cup tie. But I am happy with Lamela and Gio. Lamela
was out for so long, he has been coming back step by step. Playing 20 minutes here, half
an hour against Liverpool and 90 here. You could see his fitness is coming. And Gio again has been step by step. He was
so so good against Liverpool and so so good here again. I am happy with the boys. They played with intensity. And I am happy with result obviously. What did you make of Japhet Tanganga’s performance
in a more attacking role? I think it’s more for you to analyse that
me. My analysis of him brought him to where he is now. Brought him to two full games,
debut in the Premier League, debut in the FA Cup. That’s the way I like kids. They don’t think
about modern philosophies of trying to have a pathway into the team. At this age it’s work, work, work and more work and wait for the right opportunity. For me that’s the message to the young players
at our club. The pathway is work, work and work and then when the right moment arrives
you prove you are ready for it. You mentioned Middlesbrough went direct with Gestede, how did you feel your defence dealt with that? You know it was not just Gestede, it was him and Fletcher. Two strong boys in the air, a style of game that creates problems to everybody. I always say that you cannot press the ball in the air. You have to try to stop the long balls but for that the line has to be up.
They did that when the fatigue was there. They did that when Giovani, when Lamela, when Eriksen, they start dropping back and not stopping so well as they did for the majority of the game. So long balls to the box and we dealt very well with every set piece. I think they had a quite high number of corners and lateral free-kicks and we dealt well with it. In the situation they scored, I think outside the box if I’m not wrong, it was Saville with his bad foot. But then they were in the game for the last ten minutes and credit to them for that. Southampton in the next round, are you looking forward to meeting up with some friends on the touchline again and get some revenge? They are on fire, they are winning matches,
home and away. Great results. They were in the dark zone and now they are shining. Credit
to them. We know it’s going to be a difficult tie. Luck is not with us in the draws. Two away, two difficult matches, Middlesbrough
and now Southampton, but it is what it is. Southampton I think also they will feel they
could have a much easier tie. We are going to be ready, I hope. We were expecting an announcement on Gedson
Fernandes, any update on that? Any news? No news. I didn’t want to know anything during the day. During
the day it was just about the game. He doesn’t have news for me so nothing. Christian Eriksen was booed when the teams
were read out before the match, does that make it more difficult to convince him to
stay? He played very well. Played very well, very
professional which is what I expect from him. If his decision is to leave I think he has
to leave with his head up, if he gives everything which is what he tries to do for the team.
Fans, it’s always to respect, we have to respect but I think the boy did it for us today.
