Thank you for making time to be here today. Welcome to all of those watching live online. We will now begin the press conference for
WRESTLE KINGDOM 13 in TOKYO DOME. I, Yuichi Tabata, from TV Asahi,
will be your host for today. We will announce the first match and
information for the Dome. We ask those of you in attendance
to spread the word. Now let me announce the outline of the event, First, the title is
“WRESTLE KINGDOM 13 IN TOKYO DOME”. The show will on be Friday, January 4th. The doors open at 3PM
and the show kicks off at 5PM, Of course at the Tokyo Dome. This event is presented by
New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Tickets go on sale Thursday, October 25th. For a ticket bread-down
please consult the distributed documents. Please treat them with confidentiality. And now, the chairman of
New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Mr. Sugabayashi. Thank you coming here today,
I know all of you are very busy. I have 3 three things to announce
for WRESTLE KINGDOM today. Starting with the first match to be announced, The 66th IWGP Champion, Kenny Omega, will defend
against the challenger, Hiroshi Tanahashi. This match is a test of two differing
ideologies of pro-wrestling. We are proud to deliver our biggest show
of the year. Please looking forward to it. The official website also launches today. We will continue to announce more news there.
Please check it. Secondly, the event’s theme song is provided by
the reggae-punk band, SIM. This is an original song made just for
WRESTLE KINGDOM 13. This song is as epic as the show it represents. The song is titled, ‘Lion’s Den’. We’ve got a message from MA, the lead singer,
allow me to share it now, “I’ve been a big fan of pro-wrestling since
elementary school. I especially love New Japan.” “There was a time where I seriously debated
whether I should be a musician or a wrestler.” “I’m part of the New Japan fan club
and you can often catch me at shows.” “This opportunity for me is a dream come true.” “I dedicate this song for 1.4,
from a true fan who loves pro-wrestling.” “MY LIFE IS WRESTLING.” That comes to us from SIM.
Thank you for the message. We now present a sample of the song
for you to take a listen to. The entire song will be released later.
Please look forward to it. That is all. Moving on, the third announcement
is the catchphrase for the show. The catchphrase is, “PRO-WRESTLING WINTER FEST 1.4” The concept is an entire festival,
starting from the fan fest on January 3rd, Going through January 4th, And ending on January 5th in Korakuen Hall. We’ll deliver these 3 shows as a festival
and spread it all over Japan and to the world. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Now we will bring out the main event competitors. First, the challenger, Hiroshi Tanahashi. And now, the IWGP Heavyweight Champion,
Kenny Omega. We ask you two to please talk about your
thoughts and aspirations. First, we’ll have comments from
Hiroshi Tanahashi. Please, step to the podium. It’s been a while, To be here, as Tanahashi,
in the main event of the Tokyo Dome. I haven’t been able to collect my thoughts yet,
so please, ask me later if my words aren’t enough. My intent with pro-wrestling is to… liven things,
and allow everyone to have a good time. And I always look towards my victory in the end. If you just look at the surface, I thought that Kenny and I had similar ideas. But yesterday, After I watched the main event, Visuals… Athletics… Everything… Looking at it all… It was all there and it was all amazing, but… After the match ended, I was reminded that it was a title match
for the IWGP. That’s what I was left with. The IWGP… Authority… The way they treat the IWGP title, The IWGP belt is… Not just an accessory. And there is something that has been
bothering me for a quite a while, If I have to criticize that match, Ibushi and Cody are companions, It started with shaking hands, And had fierce offense and defense, But before all that, They started by shaking hands, They why did they use a table?
Was that necessary? I found myself asking ‘why’
many times during that match. What?
Why? Why would you use a table on teammates? Leading to today,
I’ve always wanted to spread pro-wrestling, For those watching for the first time, they
shouldn’t be left questioning what’s going on. Kenny has the eyes of the world. And more and more people have found pro-wrestling, But the way he wrestles, It’s not easy for those watching for the
first time. There are so many questions. This is… What I believe. I know that there is a big difference
in condition between me and Kenny, But, I’ll find a way to manage, somehow. I’ve wrestled in the Tokyo Dome many times
before, but this will be my best effort, for sure. And I will put the belt around my waist,
once again, absolutely. Next, Kenny Omega, please. Those are their thoughts and aspirations
leading to the Tokyo Dome. Thank you. Now we open the floor to questions. Please, raise your hand and state your company. The staff will bring the microphone
to you for your question. Go ahead.
Okay, in the middle, first row. For New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s official site, For Tanahashi, Last night you said a few things about Kenny… What stood out was when you said,
“Your time is up,” Can you tell us what you meant? Well… I guess my words weren’t enough. Kenny’s… Pro-wrestling… It’s all the same, isn’t it? Even though his pro-wrestling is fierce, And tough, It should never be cruel. That’s what I believe. No doubt about it, he has great skills,
looks, physique and athletic abilities, But something is missing. That’s what I’ve always felt. And I finally figured it out last night. His pro-wrestling isn’t elegant. That’s what I meant. For Kenny, Your thoughts on what Tanahashi said, that your
pro-wresting is not elegant and your time is up. Any more? We will take a few more questions. Raise your hand if you have one. Weekly Pro-Wrestling, here, This one is for Tanahashi, About what you said last night,
that Kenny is doing whatever he wants to, Do you mean that he’s damaging New Japan itself,
besides the IWGP title? First off, I was talking about the title. The authority of IWGP title, currently, Has… Even the fans no longer know what it means. It’s because they don’t see wrestlers having
the drive to become the title holder. That’s what I believe. Also, There is the Bullet Club, And they brought Ibushi on board, Although, Ibushi never had that intention.
But I realized something… Bullet Club turned baby-face from heel,
so now they have the support of the fans. Maybe Kenny doesn’t mean to, But to me, it looks like he’s just
taking advantage of Ibushi. I think he should let Ibushi go. It is of course important for us wrestlers
to acquire respect and admirations from the fans, But at the same time it’s our job to gain respect
from other wrestlers so that they want to face us. They are both equally important. I believe so. And for Kenny, Your thoughts on Tanahashi’s idea
to, ‘Let Ibushi go’… You know, I’m not asking you to be heel,
so I can be babyface, I just don’t agree with your point, That you think your change is the answer. I just want you to stop and think about it. Not everything will work out. Some things will, Other things won’t. I get your point,
that change is important, but, Pro-wrestling has its history
and has become a culture. So, the idea of pro-wrestling,
itself, never changes. What has changed is how you deliver it
and how you perform, but that’s just the surface. That’s what I think. Was that all for you? Is there another question?
Go ahead. This is Shibata, This question is for Tanahashi, Your thoughts on Okada. Okada came to save you last night,
and the crowd was loud… I’m a bit taken back that you
asked me that here. I don’t think this is the right place
to talk about Okada, now… I have nothing to say about that now.
I’m sorry. Any other questions? This is for Kenny, In the backstage comments Tanahashi mentioned
your nickname, the BEST BOUT MACHINE, He said, “Give your best bout vs Tanahashi,” But you said you intend to
humiliate and hurt Tanahashi, You have no intention of giving him
a best bout, do you? How did you feel about his comments, Tanahashi? Well, that was in Niigata in 2016
for the InterContinental title, I lost to Kenny there.
And then Kenny… Took off. He shot up to stardom very quickly. If… If I could go back there,
I wish I would have stopped him then. Contrasting with my impression
I had of Kenny then, And Kenny now, If you ask me which Kenny I prefer, I’d choose the Kenny from then.
He was better. For Tanahashi, This will be the last Tokyo Dome show
of the Heisei Era, Does that cross your mind? Yes, very much so. Because I want to set a milestone in history. Since I won G1 at the end of the Heisei Era, I will make an imprint on the Tokyo Dome,
at the end of the Heisei Era Kenny, you may don’t know the
significance of the Heisei Era… Actually, I do know what it means. Well, at the end of the Tokyo Dome, GOODBYE AND GOODNIGHT. I want to close with that. But it doesn’t really have anything
to do with Heisei. I want to close the Tokyo Dome
with my catchphrase. Are there any other questions? Are we good? I have a question for Tanahashi, Yesterday… The fans liked the 3 way match,
they applauded it, But you said you didn’t like it. What didn’t you like about the 3 way? And one more, you first said, “I’m angry,” Were you able to express
all of your frustrations? It wasn’t really about 3 way itself, What makes you a great pro-wrestler is
entertaining the fans. But… In yesterday’s match, And watching Kenny’s other recent matches, It’s all about the relationship with
Ibushi and the drama with Bullet Club. I feel like Kenny is satisfied, But as far as the ring,
he’s leaving the fans behind. That’s how I see it. Why I’m angry is because… The way he treats the title. I want the title to be held high,
to represent a goal. Champion equals Kenny Omega equals New Japan… That means he is the face of the company. I feel that it’s going in the wrong direction.
That’s what I wanted to express. To earn a shot at the title, one usually has to
win a tournament, like the G1, Or like the NEW JAPAN CUP, But here they just decided to have a title match
because they are friends. That concerns you? Kenny just said that he will do
anything to support Ibushi, What if Ibushi says, “I want to be
IWGP champion,” then how will he support him? Is he going to give him the title?
No, he won’t. So there are many inconsistencies there. Your idea is inconsistent. I believe so. Omega, your thoughts on what Tanahashi just said? Are there any more questions? Are we good?
Okay. Thank you both for participating today. With that, we conclude the questions portion. Coming up next, We will move onto to the photo op,
so please be patient while they prepare. We will conclude the live stream here. Thank you for watching. Until they are all ready—
