*Scratching* It is a nice day.
Benjamin’s players have gathered. They are going to their first tournament.
It will be fun. “Oh, I am so excited,” says Sally.
Raju sneezes. He is also excited.
They all are. There are many teams at the tournament.
They look talented. They look big and strong, too.
Benjamin gets a bit nervous. Winning will not be easy.
“Just remember to have fun,” says mom. Benjamin smiles.
His team also wants to win. In their first match,
they play against a team in blue shirts. They are a bunch of older boys.
A boy points to Ronny and Sonny. “Is that one or two players?” he laughs.
His teammates laugh along with him. Ronny gets angry. He gets so angry
that he scores the first goal. It feels good. The blue team is very good.
But Benjamin’s team is good, too. They have trained a lot. The blue team only manages
to score one goal. The match ends with the result 1-1.
This makes Benjamin happy. He is okay with that.
The blue team is not happy. They wanted to win. The next match is against a team of girls. “They will be easy to beat,”
say Ronny and Sonny. “What do you mean by that?”
says Sally angrily. She knows that girls can be good, too.
Very good. Benjamin knows that, too. “We need to do our best,” says Benjamin.
“They might be very good.” Benjamin’s team does its best. But those girls
can certainly play football. They score seven beautiful goals. Benjamin and his team
do not stand a chance. “Well played,” says Benjamin
to the six girls after the match. “I hope you win the tournament.”
“Thank you,” say the six girls. They smile. Now Benjamin’s team is playing
against a team in yellow shirts. It is a very tough match.
The two teams are an even match. And both of them want to win. Anne dribbles the ball
between a boy’s legs. She almost scores a goal.
But the goalkeeper catches the ball. Anne almost gets upset. The yellow team wins with a score of 1-0.
It is very disappointing. Ronny and Sonny have had enough. “Do not forget to have fun, when you play,”
says Benjamin. “But we want to win,” say Ronny and Sonny.
So does Benjamin. But you cannot win every time. “Maybe we will win the next match,”
he says. Their last match is against a team
in red shirts. They are good. But Benjamin’s team is lucky. One of the red players
trips on his own feet. Sally takes the ball.
She is quick. She runs as fast as she can.
The ball goes straight into the goal. Benjamin’s team defeats the red team
by 2-0. They did a great job. Benjamin’s mom buys some sticks
of ice cream for them. They are tasty. They are not playin
any more matches today. They are very tired.
Today has been both fun and exhausting. They have both won and lost matches. They sit on the green grass
and watch the final match. The good girls are playing
against the blue team. Benjamin and his team root for the girls.
They win. The blue players are very upset.
They are not graceful losers. Benjamin has not won a trophy today.
But he is proud. Very proud. His team has played well.
He wants to show everybody, that even when you are not
like everybody else, you can still play football.
He lies down on his bed. He is going to dream
of his team’s next trophy.
