Julia Gintof: Despite falling to Baylor a
little over a week ago, the UConn women’s basketball team has been on a hot streak in
conference play, currently holding the number one seed in the conference. Today was no different
as they fueled that fire against the Golden Hurricanes out of Tulsa University. Julia Gintof: UConn lit the match early, taking
a commanding 11-2 lead halfway through the first, as the Tulsa defenders could not seem
to find an answer to the unselfish offense. Megan Walker dipped into her bag of tricks
and put on a show with success from both the paint and the perimeter. On the defensive
end, the Huskies seemed to be anywhere and everywhere, locking down the Hurricanes offense,
running down the shot clock, and forcing poor shots as the scoring gap continued to widen. Julia Gintof: The team effort persisted into
the second half as Crystal Dangerfield’s relentless effort locked in both assists and threes.
The Huskies would continue to pull away, with assistance from freshman Anna Makurat, who
just couldn’t seem to miss in the fourth quarter. She finished the game with 21 points, and
the Huskies would take this one 92 to 34. Julia Gintof: The Huskies will take it to
the XL Center for their next matchup, where they will revive the rivalry with Tennessee
on Thursday. You won’t want to miss it. Make sure you wear white. Until then, I’m Julia
Gintof, UCTV Sports.
