SHOCK Chris Jericho RETURN! WWE Royal Rumble Return Off?! | WrestleTalk News Jan. 2018

August 30, 2019

Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News
– I’m Oli Davis. WrestleKingdom 12
And wasn’t yesterday’s New Japan WrestleKingdom 12 ruddy marvellous – full of great storytelling,
insane spots and fantastic wrestling. I’ve only got one problem with the show,
though: Beastmaster gimmick infringement by Marty Scurll! Although he gets a free pass, because I’m
his biggest fan. Harnessing the power of the eagle as part
of his IWGP Junior Heavyweight title defence, The Villain made an incredible entrance, equipped
with giant bird wings as he came up through the floor of the stage. And we should all thank Scurll for giving
us such a moment, as he pointed out on Twitter: “I hope everyone understands how hard it
was for me to get these wings to Japan” And customs wasn’t the only obstacle. Marty’s fellow Bullet Club member Cody Rhodes
then shared pictures of the assembly stage on the day of the show:
“…he legit worked very hard(all day) so you fans could have those wings. Thank you Villain.” Chris Jericho vs Kenny Omega Fallout
But the most talked about match of the evening, from an international standpoint at least,
was Chris Jericho’s brutal war with Kenny Omega, which one fan marvelled:
@IAmJericho can’t be human. Tours with rock band wrestles 5 Star matches
drinks a lot of vodka #GOAT #WrestleKingdom12 #AlphaVsOmega
You forgot he also defeated The Rock and Steve Austin in the same night. Jericho himself replied to that tweet, in
his first post since the match: “Guilty as charged… 🤠”
While Omega also made his first post-match tweet:
“Regardless of the match result, #AlphaVsOmega at #WK12 #njwk12 was a fight with no clear
victor. Sometimes, those are the best ones. Thanks to everyone around the world for watching. #ChangeTheWorld”
The promotion’s next big show, New Year’s Dash – their equivalent of the Raw after WrestleMania,
which sets up all the big storylines for the next several months of New Japan, is now over. And the very last angle has probably revealed
what’s in Jericho’s immediate future… Chris Jericho Attacks Naito! Y2J attacked WrestleKingdom main eventer Tetsuya
Naito at the end of the show, suggesting he’ll be wrestling more matches in New Japan. It was widely thought that if Jericho lost
his Omega match at WrestleKingdom, he wouldn’t have any more matches for the promotion – with
the bout reportedly being a one-and-done deal. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported
last November that “those close to the situation expect him back in WWE in 2018… it could
be as early as the Raw 25th anniversary” – which is just over a fortnight away. And when asked about Y2J’s potential Royal
Rumble return, Dave Meltzer didn’t rule it out, tweeting:
“Up to him and he keeps quiet on his plans” But the signs for another feud in New Japan
were there, with Jericho going back and forth with Naito in interviews over recent weeks,
with G1 winner accusing Jericho of being a part-timer stealing spots from New Japan talent. Jericho attacking him here will presumably
start a program between the two, likely ruling out a WWE return in the near future. Watch mine and Luke’s full WrestleKingdom

Jericho dropped a hint on the Naito angle on a 'Talk is Jericho' with Don Callis and I never picked up on it.

They actually talked about Naito, and how he has been screwed out of main event status before, and how he complained about being switched to co-main this time.

Jericho replied something about being the big draw, and ended the topic about Naito's beef with "save it for the ring, kid"

Chris Jericho can return at Royal Rumble 2018 making a surprise entrant into the Royal Rumble match. Would make sense if he stayed in the WWE some time after either on Monday Night Raw or Smackdown Live. A one off Royal Rumble match, especially if people know about it, makes no sense as most likely he will lose.

  • Reply Marat V January 5, 2018 at 7:44 pm

Jericho is old and fat sadly. He said he was in the best shape of his life but was in the worst. Omega was marvelous but Jericho’s work just yelled “wwe”

Rules out a FULL TIME WWE return, but it certainly doesn't rule out him showing up at the Rumble or the anniversary show. He just won't be on week-to-week for a while. He's actually got the BEST gig in wrestling now: he's seen by both the East and the West in their biggest promotions. The man is a freakin' genius.

  • Reply John Rifenberg January 5, 2018 at 8:58 pm

Why are people acting like this was a surprise. It was known that he would be a New Years Dash for weeks. He had been teasing tension with Naito on twitter. He noticeably has an open space in his Fozzy schedule when the next NJPW shows in America are happening. Nothing more frustrating then Wrestle Kingdom week hearing people that pay almost no attention to NJPW suddenly act like they know anything about the product.

Jericho vs Naito might be great. Hell it will be great even just for the fact that we get another "Judas" entrance for Jericho (holy shit that was awesome). Biggest news from the show though might be a huge hint of the Bullet Club split, biggest so far, Kenny and Cody seem to be on the verge of exploding after Cody attacked Ibushi. That will be interesting.

  • Reply DragonHeart613 January 6, 2018 at 1:57 am

Jericho vs Naito will be spectacular, cannot wait to see that!!! I hope Y2J also goes up against the living legend of New Japan himself: Hiroshi Tanahashi as well before Chris ultimately returns to WWE for good.

Wrestle Kingdom 12 was an amazing experience. Not all the matches were great but those that were were just unbelievably spectacular!!! Kota Ibushi vs Cody Rhodes (That Crossroads off the apron down to the floor was sick), The Fatal 4-Way for The IWGP Jr HW Title, Hiroshi Tanahashi defending The IWGP IC Title (first time ever that I got to see Tanahashi, my all-time favorite Japanese Pro Wrestler, compete live. Thank you New Japan World), Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega's vicious No DQ battle for The IWGP US Title and finally the main event between Naito & Okada for The IWGP WH Championship were easily the big must see & very best matches of the whole night while the rest were just okay. The Young Bucks had a surprisingly average match despite earning their record-setting 7th IWGP Tag Title reign.

The only thing about WK12 that I legitimately hated & was really pissed off about was the outcome of the Naito vs Okada main event!!! Imagine if Daniel Bryan after constantly being screwed over by The Authority time & time again while rallying The Yes Movement all on The Road to Wrestlemania 30 went into WM30 but fails to win The WWE World Championship because that is exactly what happened to Tetsuya Naito at WK12, an insanely anti-climatic ending to a story 4 years in the making, a crushingly disappointing result to an otherwise worldclass match featuring 2 of the very best in the business today!!! WK12 should've been Naito's night, it should've been his moment of redemption & his journey finally triumphantly coming full circle after everything he has gone thru & has had to endure since dating all the way back to his first G1 Climax Tournament win when he was ruthlessly rejected by the fans prombting NJPW's brass to hold a fan vote that ultimately resulted in Naito's first ever IWGP WHC match against Okada axed from the WK main event spot leading Naito to leave for Mexico where he successfully reinvented himself into the beloved superstar that he is today!!! For the last 4 years, Naito had been steadily working towards that very night at WK12 and he should've finally gotten his much deserved crowning moment but instead NJPW decides to allow Okada's already lengthy reign to continue??????? A great match & great storytelling utterly ruined by a serious headscratcher of an ending 🙁

There’s no way Omega want to go to WWE isn’t he? Really want to see the whole Bullet Club, Okada, The Elite go to WWE, and of course I want them to be treat as good as while they in NJPW

Jericho vs Omega a 5 star match? Ummm no. Not even close. Even Omega, who I agree on as being a 5 star match guy, failed. His performance was so cartoony it was cringy and just sad. I can only assume he did this to try to make up for Jericho not being able to go like the other guys Omega has 5 star matches with.

  • Reply Brian O'Neil January 6, 2018 at 6:50 pm

am I the only one that feels that the atmosphere of njpw is kind of like early Attitude Era WWF with Kenny Omega kind of being like Stone Cold Steve Austin granted Austin was a loner but Kenny Omega was supposed to be a heel but the fans got behind him because of his attitude and his work rate I mean yes Polo Club has obvious parallels to the NWO as well all in all in my opinion njpw right now is very similar actually to American wrestling of late 90's in a good way WWE should take notice of njpw seriously all the things they're doing wrong lately are things that njpw is doing right

  • Reply Stevie D January 6, 2018 at 6:54 pm

  • Reply Horst Schlämmer January 7, 2018 at 7:48 pm

My prediction for the Royal Rumble: Chris Jericho enters last, crowd is going nuts. He was going on shooting on Kenny Omega in social media in the weeks between wk12 and RR. But after Jericho entered the ring, Omega appears from the crowd, enters the ring, destroys Jericho and eliminates him and tells him ‚it ain‘t over yet‘. Their fight in social media will continue and it ends in a match at WrestleMania34.

  • Reply Vandalle January 7, 2018 at 7:52 pm

For me Omega alongside Okada and Styles are the best in the world, but I think Naito vs Jericho can be even better, Naito's charisma and arrogance will suit a match with Jericho so much, If Jericho is staying around for a while I'd also love to see a match against Tanahashi, even though a lot of people think he's lost a bit of what he was I still feel like Tanahashi vs Jericho is a dream match, Tanahashi's wrestling style and Jericho's wrestling style would work together like a dream
