Class of 2020 Match Day Virtual Experience Recap

March 25, 2020

“Ok. Should we play some music?” “Do you want to do a countdown for me?” “Alright” “Ok. I’m going to open this.” “Welcome to Match Day 2020. Class of 2020, we celebrate with you in extraordinary joy the fact that so many of you have gotten your top choices, internships and residencies in Arizona and throughout the rest of the country. As you open this envelope, picture us there with you, cheering in great joy and wishing you the greatest success. We know that you will do extraordinary things in service to our community, and that there will be acts of heroism.” “We are really happy for you guys; we’re really excited for the news that you’re about to get about where you’re next stage of training is going to be; and we’re a little bit sad because we don’t get to share that excitement with you in person. At the same time, we’re happy to know that you’re able to share that with the people that are most important to you in your life.” “Today is your Match Day. And you have worked long and hard to get to this point. You’ve persevered through long study hours, long clinical shifts, as well as traveling across the United States for interviews just
to get here today. This year at the match there were over 40,000
students vying for positions. Early on, your class nicknamed yourself ‘the
classiest class,’ and you’re definitely classy; but you’re also so much more. You are servant leaders; you are compassionate;
and you are going to be fantastic physicians. So families, it’s time to get the cameras
ready because we’re about to release the Match results. Students, it is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you today; and now, we invite you to relax, enjoy as the students proudly present your Match.” “Banner!” “There’s a picture of the class, it looks like.” “Phoenix. We’re staying here!” “I matched here! I get to stay! “We’re coming home. We’re coming home.” “You’ve matched at … in Chicago…” “Indiana…” “Yes, yes, yes, yes!” “I’m going to Yale!” “Tucson! Thank you so much, everyone.” Have a great celebration today.” “Happy Match Day…” “…2020 from…” “…the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.”
